Artificial Intelligence: a Philosophical

by Jack Copeland

A thorough, informed introduction to artificial intelligence from a philosophical perspective. Good historical background, and a lengthy exploration into the question "can a machine think?" Inevitably, given the speed of technological change, the book is now slightly dated (originally published 1993), but is still one of the best backgrounds on the field of artificial intelligence and its philosophical meaning in existence.
